About & Founder Story
The passion, the history obsession, and the uncompromising standards behind every Diamondback build.
a Time
The Builder Behind the Brand
Built on Obsession.
Driven by History.
Diamondback Tactical was founded with a single conviction: the AK variants and retro firearms that serious collectors deserve aren't just functional — they're correct. Not "close enough." Not "similar era." Correct. The right pattern. The right country. The right wood. The right finish. The right markings. All of it.
Eugene Mancuso has spent years immersed in the history of Warsaw Pact-era small arms — studying production records, arsenal documentation, and surviving examples to understand what each pattern actually looked like coming off the factory floor. That research isn't background work. It's the foundation every Diamondback build is built on.
Based on the East Coast, Diamondback Tactical is establishing itself as the reference standard for historically accurate custom AK builds in the region. We don't build volume. We build right — one project at a time.
Our Mission
To build the historically accurate, premium-quality AK variants, AR-15 builds, and retro clone firearms that serious collectors deserve — not just functional, but correct.
"Correct" is not a vague word at Diamondback Tactical. It means the right receiver type for the pattern's production era. The right barrel profile. The right furniture — sourced, not approximated. The right surface finish applied the right way. And a documented build record so you know exactly what went into the rifle and why.
What We Stand For
The Diamondback
Standard
Every decision we make in the build process — from parts sourcing to final inspection — is governed by a clear set of principles. These aren't marketing copy. They're the standards every Diamondback build is held to.
Historical Accuracy First
Research precedes every build. We study primary sources — production records, arsenal documentation, surviving examples — before we spec a single component. The pattern you choose is the pattern we build.
Craftsmanship Without Shortcuts
No mystery parts. No "close enough" substitutions without your knowledge. Every component is evaluated against the pattern spec before it's installed. If something doesn't meet the standard, we source one that does.
Full Legal Compliance
All builds are completed in strict compliance with applicable federal and state law. We are FFL licensed. Every completed rifle transfers through a licensed dealer in your state — a process we coordinate from start to finish.
Direct Communication
You work directly with the builder — not a middleman, not a sales team, not an auto-reply queue. Eugene reviews every inquiry personally and stays in contact at every stage of the build. Questions get real answers, fast.
No Surprises on Spec or Price
Nothing is built until you've approved the full spec, sourcing plan, and price in writing. If sourcing discovers a deviation from the original plan, you know before anything changes. No hidden costs, no post-build surprises.
Build Documentation
Every build is delivered with documented notes: components used, their origins and specifications, finish process, and a function-check report. Your rifle has a record. That record is yours, and it travels with the build.
How We Work
The Diamondback
Build Process
Building a historically accurate rifle isn't like ordering off a shelf. It takes time, research, and collaboration. Here's how every Diamondback build unfolds — from first contact to transfer.
Intake & Pattern Research
You share your vision — pattern, era, country of origin, any specific components or variants you want to reference. Eugene reviews your request and cross-references it against documented production data and known surviving examples to lock the correct spec before anything is sourced.
Sourcing & Specification Sign-Off
We source components from verified suppliers and known surplus channels. You receive a complete parts manifest — what each component is, where it comes from, and how it matches the original spec — along with a firm quote and build timeline. Nothing moves forward until you approve the full package in writing.
The Build
Eugene builds your rifle by hand — fitting, pressing, timing, finishing. You receive progress updates at key milestones. If anything unexpected surfaces during the build (a sourcing substitution, a fit issue requiring deviation), you're contacted immediately. No decisions are made on your behalf without your knowledge.
Function Check, Documentation & Transfer
Every completed build is inspected, function-checked, and test-fired before delivery. You receive your documented build notes — components, origins, finish process, inspection results. Transfer is coordinated through a licensed FFL dealer in your state. Nationwide shipping available.
Every Diamondback build is completed in full compliance with applicable federal and state law. All builds are 922R compliant and those parts are specified in your recipe.
